Ice fishing for rainbow trout?
I live in michigan and fish on a lake stocked with rainbows. Any tips for catching them through the ice?
depth, structure would also be usefull, also links to the products suggested. thanks for the great answers so far.
should also be nooted, the lake has clear (not murky) water.
Trout LOVE bug-larvae under the ice. Hellgramite-”looking” ice-jigs with lotsa “legs” and “tails” can be deadly, ESP if you use in conjunction with meal-worms.
Crappie-minnows work well also.
The problem with trout under ice is “concentration”, and WHEN they are hungry!
And remember that “stocked” trout are usually fed trout “pellets”. In this case, a “brown, fluffy, ball-fly” soaked in trout attractant will/would be deadly.
Hope this helps? Good fishing!
